Crete Island is the ideal place for sport lovers because its landscape is rich and varied. Mountains, planes and beaches are offering the possibility to effectuate all kind of sports.
On most organised beaches in Water sports in Crete you can choose from a great variety of water sports. Whether you choose water skiing, parasailing, banana, ringos or a pedalo, water sports are a great way to spend your time and increase your adrenaline and fitness.
The Chania Yacht Club has various sailing, swimming, water-skiing and diving school (information: 28210 24387/20077) and, on the beach of Akti Kanari, one can found the Chania National Centre for Water Sports (information: 28210 40276).
Renting water-sports materials can also be found at all the popular beaches of the prefecture of Rethymno and at the beaches of Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Sitia and Ierapetra in the prefecture of Lassithi. Skiffs, pedal-boats, canoes and other equipments for sea sports can be hired in all the most frequented beaches of the island.
All the large hotel complexes possess swimming pools, tennis courts, mini-golf courses and various sea sports equipments that can be used by people who don't have a room.
In the prefecture of Chania, private yachts can be moored at the ports of Chania, Kastelli, Souda and Paleohora (Chania Port Authority: 28210 28888/26083). In the prefecture of Rethymno the ports of Rethymno, Agia Galini and Panormos offer facilities for private yachts (Port Authority: 28310 22276) and, in the prefecture of Lassithi, yachts can be moored in the ports of Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and Ierapetra (Agios Nikolaos Port Authority: 28410 22312, Sitia Harbour Master's Office: 28430 22310 and Ierapetra Harbour Master's Office: 28420 22294).
For the sea sports fans, schools for water-skiing and wind-surfing are available at Malia, Agia Pelagia and Limenas Hersonissou in the prefecture of Heraklion Greece.
